Are there different quality grades of Matcha?
You’ve surely heard before that matcha is described as bitter, grassy, and not particularly tasty. That’s why we’re letting you in on a little secret: not all matcha is the same.
There are three quality grades of matcha: Ceremonial, Premium, and Culinary.
Ceremonial Matcha is the highest quality. Vibrant green and not bitter. It is so pure that it can even be drunk with just hot water and is used in Japanese tea ceremonies (hence the name). It adds an incomparably rich flavor to any recipe.
Premium Matcha is more bitter and not bright green. Due to the lower quality standard, it is less pure and can have a high content of pesticides and heavy metals.
Culinary matcha is a murky, yellowish green. It is very bitter and is only used for sweet baked goods like cookies, brownies, and cakes. We advise against drinking it.
What quality is the matcha from MatchaLand?
We use organic matcha of ceremonial quality. It is sustainably grown, carefully tested for heavy metals, radioactivity, and pesticides, and cultivated in the hills of Osaka, Japan. It is vibrant green, has a rich umami flavor, and tastes fantastic. And since it is not bitter, there are so many delicious recipes you can try with it.
